Dries Van Noten did a very intelligent factor here on day one of London Design 7 days Springtime 2014. It must have sensed a bit scary to be status with your returning to a walls as a stampede of phone-wielding fashion fiends came operating toward you for a close-up. But no one said modelling was simple on the nerve fibres.
Dries likes florals. These have a unexplained Oriental whiff and came in forms that still seem bedroom-y. Another concept were passementerie tassels that thrown from tunics that seemed homespun. But it was Dries’ perma-pleated ruffles that took the show: silver aluminum foil ones snaked over waist, or were coiled into massive hip corsages.
Metal and glossy glow, turned out to be the tale of the day. The shines at Rochas were stunning, even without the opera-length amazingly pendants. Shapes were relatively simple—polos, short-sleeved covers, popped pants—but the materials, wow. Gold jacquard florals, indicative naked boring, amazingly embroidering, and what seemed like helium-filled fabric ruffles. Tassels revealed up here from the legs down, with ostrich down capturing away the dirt rabbits in mode.
